Certificate of Conformity for Used Motor Vehicles and Spare Parts Exported to Zimbabwe

Cotecna is authorized by the Zimbabwe Ministry of Industry & Commerce to issue a Certificate of Conformity for Used Motor Vehicles and Used Spare Parts exported to Zimbabwe.

About the programme

As a trusted Zimbabwe partner, Cotecna is mandated by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to execute the Zimbabwe Consignment Based Conformity Assessment programme for regulated goods. The main objective of this programme is to better protect consumers from substandard, counterfeit and potentially dangerous goods.

Cotecna’s mandate consists of issuing Certificates of Conformity (COC) for Used Motor Vehicles and Used Spare Parts exported to Zimbabwe. Cotecna conducts vehicle inspections in exporting countries, landing ports and at all the major borders before entering Zimbabwe. In case an importer fails to get a Certificate of Conformity, assessment can be conducted in Zimbabwe under the Destination Inspection Scheme.

Regulated Products

Under the Zimbabwe CBCA programme the following products qualify for export to Zimbabwe and require a Certificate of Conformity:

  1. Passenger cars and light commercial vehicles under 5 tonnes.
Commercial vehicles over 5 tonnes are not subject to this restriction.
  2. Used motor vehicle spare parts

Important: Vehicles with altered odometers are not permitted for import. In case of doubt, please contact us to determine if your products are subject to regulation.

Zimbabwe conformity assessment process

Cotecna is a trusted partner to the Zimbabwe government. Our mandate covers the physical and mechanical inspection of used motor vehicles and used spare parts.

After inspecting and assessing the conformity of your shipment, Cotecna will deliver your mandatory Certificate of Conformity.

To assess the conformity of regulated goods, the verification of conformity process will take the following process:

  1. Exporter/Importer submits a completed Request for Certification form.
  2. Cotecna schedules the inspection
  3. Inspection is conducted based on applicable standards
  4. Certificate of Conformity is issued if the vehicle passes inspection
  5. If the vehicle fails inspection and if possible, it can be re-inspected after repair.
  6. A Non-Conformance Report is issued if the vehicle fails inspection and cannot be repaired or fails the second inspection after repairs. In this case, the motor vehicle will be rejected for import.
