ISO 22716 Good Manufacturing Practices for Cosmetics Certification

The ISO 22716:2007 certification allows organizations to ensure and demonstrate they follow international guidelines and standards on how to best produce, control, store and ship cosmetic products.

What is ISO 22716 Certification?

The ISO 22716:2007 Management System Certification is a set of guidelines intended to provide guidance regarding Good Manufacturing Practices for cosmetic products. These guidelines have been prepared for consideration by the cosmetic industry and take into account the specific needs of this sector.

ISO 22716 offers organizational and practical advice on the management of the human, technical and administrative factors affecting product quality. The standards have been written to allow them to be used following the flow of products from receipt to shipment.

Good Manufacturing Practices constitute the practical development of the quality assurance concept through the description of the plant activities that are based on sound scientific judgement and risk assessments. The objective of these GMP guidelines is to define the activities that enable manufacturers to obtain a product that meets defined characteristics. Core elements of ISO 22716 can be thought of as being composed of five core elements:

  • The cosmetics quality management system and organisation
  • Premises and equipment
  • Product realisation and materials management
  • Deviations, complaints and recalls
  • Continuous improvement

Benefits of ISO 22716 Certification

Implementation and certification of the ISO 22716 Cosmetic GMP standard ensures:

  1. Control of hazards and risks associated with cosmetic products
  2. Management of quality and safety compliance in the entire cosmetic product supply chain

  4. Integration with other standards like ISO 9001 and BRC Consumer products

How to get ISO 22716 certified

Cotecna provides certification against the ISO 22716 standard. Clients and customers willing to undergo certification needs to complete the application and contract agreement process following which initial or re-certification audits will be carried out. Once the certificate is issued (with a 3 year validity), further surveillance audits will have to be carried out at pre-defined frequencies to maintain the validity of the certificate.
