FSSC 22000 Food Safety System Certification

Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) is a robust, ISO-based, internationally accepted certification scheme. The entire supply chain is included in a single certification, making FSSC 22000 the most comprehensive and accessible food safety management system available.

What is FSSC 22000?

The Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000) scheme incorporates existing standards, including ISO 22000, sector specific PRPs, and HACCP. It offers a complete certification programme in a single package, making it accessible for organizations of all sizes.

FSSC 22000 is owned by an independent non-profit organization and is fully approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The scheme provides a certification model that can be used in the whole food supply chain. It can cover sectors where a technical specification for sector PRPs has been realized. The various categories covered under the scheme (Version 5.1) are farming of animals, food manufacturing, animal feed production, catering, retail & wholesale, transport and storage services, food packaging manufacturing, and production of biochemicals.

Benefits of FSSC 22000 Certification

  1. Becoming GFSI approved (this approval is required for major retailers worldwide).
  2. Development of your own food safety management system, including compliance with the requirements stipulated in FSCC 22000.
  3. Improved management and internal communication.
  4. Reduced costs caused by withdrawals and/or recalls.
  5. Improved reputation and brand loyalty.
  6. A greater sense of confidence in disclosures through increased recognition, trust and credibility.

How to get FSSC 22000 certified?

Cotecna can provide an accredited certification against the FSSC 22000 standard. Clients and customers willing to undergo certification needs to complete the application and contract agreement process following which initial or re-certification audits will be carried out. Once the certificate is issued (with a 3 year validity), further surveillance audits will have to be carried out at pre-defined frequencies to maintain the validity of the certificate.
