On December 29, 2010 Cotecna Inspection, one of the world's leading trade testing, inspection, and certification companies, signed a new contract with the Government of the Republic of Niger for Pre Shipment Inspection. The contract, which was awarded to Cotecna following an international call for tender, involves carrying out inspection and verification services of imported goods and the installation and the operation for five years of three mobile container scanners. At term, this scheme will evolve into a Destination Inspection programme.
Cotecna has been operating in Niger since 1995 when the company was awarded its first exclusive inspection contract by the government of Niger to check the quantity, quality and value of imported goods before shipment and at destination. In 2000, to support the government of Niger in its efforts to combat fraud, Cotecna increased its presence in the country to a total of nine offices.
In 2003, Cotecna introduced a Computerized Risk Management System (CRMS®) and set up an electronic link between Customs Headquarters and Cotecna’s Liaison office in Niamey to enable better utilization of the information collected.
