Cotecna honoured by Maritime Reporters Association

In September 2009, Cotecna Destination Inspection Limited (CDIL) was honored by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) with the industry’s “Foremost Service Provider” award.

Cotecna Nigeria’s achievements prominent to the award include: the construction of two fixed scanner facilities; a remarkably fast turn around time; quality of import document processing; Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and a dynamic approach to capacity building for Nigeria Customs Service and other stakeholders.

CDIL is a member of the Cotecna group, a world leader in trade inspection, security and facilitation services. Cotecna was appointed by the Nigerian government in January 2006 to provide a Destination Inspection (DI) program. Cotecna’s responsibility under the arrangement is to carry out import document verification; valuation and classification including risk profiling; scanning of cargoes; training and capacity building, which has to date benefited close to 380 Nigerian Customs Officers and over 400 other stakeholders. Cotecna provides further value added services such as online intelligence reporting.

Since the commencement of the DI program, the company has employed a work force of over 350 staff; set up efficient IT connectivity; deployed seven mobile container scanners at various ports and two airport pallet scanners, as well as launching the construction of two 9 MeV fixed scanners at Apapa and Tincan ports. These dual-vision 9 MeV scanners are the most modern and powerful that exists and will go into operation during the first quarter of 2010. They are equipped with state-of-the-art radiation detection, material discrimination and data management system options.

At the recent event ‘Tayo Rabiu, Managing Director of CDIL, stated that: “As a business entity we understand that the success of Destination Inspection in Nigeria will go far to increase the credibility of the company. Therefore we will not relent in any of our obligations to see that the project succeeds and is sustained even after the duration of the contract. We are therefore most honored by the recognition given to us through the Maritime Industry Award”
